Review Wacana Islam Liberal

Assalamualaikum.Ramadhan Kareem.

The last Friday together with our critical and distinguished speaker Dr. Khalif Muammar, Felo Penyelidik (ATMA) in his book review about Islam Liberal. The short preview about Dr. Khalif is about one who's contemplated in Islamic tradition of knowledge. Also as a new-born and student of Syed M.Naquib al-Attas.

His different thinking, critically and particularly in Islamic political and civilisation thought. Remember, before say farewell to him (Dr Khalif) i have questioned something . Asked about what is the central crisis that's perhaps really happen in Islamic movement right now ? He answered that our Islamic movement member is too much 'ta'sub' on their party or movement and they become emotionally react on issue rather than looking in the view of knowledge and the critical perspective .

The point as fundemental on why the Islam Liberal has become very liberal and bravely criticise not for only the furu'iyyah issue but become more criticise to reconstruct the fundamental of Islam namely aqidah, syariah and the holiness of al-Quran. The main point is :

They lost to put the epistemology (philosophy) of knowledge in Islam at the right place. They put al-aql at the top of wahyu not rigthly put wahyu (Al-Quran/Hadith) at the top of thinking or aql. They look at Islam in the view of rational, in the view of how the western interpret the Islam or how the orientalis interpret the Islam. Not put wahyu as a root to guide al-aql is the main point why they become more to react as liberal and samely looking to reconstruct the Islam and also accept the modernism of the west to be translate or interpret in Islam.

He said that the success is about how the human recognise what's the things that always play in our mind . Meaning that we must using the right way of thinking in Islam which is must be guided by the wahyu and put the right weltanschauung (worldview) of Islam. How to know whether our thinking is right or not? The solution is to refer to the Islamic scholarship (ulama) who's truely and sincerely react for the issue wisely, that's call ulama who have khasyatillah.



The Education and Islam Liberal

After talking session, i have oppurtunity to ask Dr. Khalif about a question to be related of education view in Islam Liberal. What's the form of education in Islam Liberal.

He answered that, in Indonesia the Islam Liberal movement manage and also have big authority in education form. They colonialised the Indonesian thinking to become liberal through education But in Malaysia we stay have good fortune because we have JAKIM and the other Islamic organisation or movement to back up. Lastly i asked, is it have the ordeal or trial to spread the Islam liberal thinking through education ?

Yes, they used the Kementerian Pembangunan Wanita & Masyarakat to enter the school in order to spread their thinking, but we have fortune because they have no strong support and also have a good connection with the Islamic authoritiy to prevent it.

Dr. Khlalif Muammar will produce a new book titled "Fiqh an-Nahdah" (Fiqh Kebangkitan), he said that, in the early 2010 will be produce. Wallahuaklam.
